Hooke's Law

Hooke's law states that stress induced in a material, when it is loaded, is directly proportional to the strain produced with in the elastic limit of the material.

          where,
                     σ is Stress,
                     Ɛ is Strain, &
E is the constant of proportionality and is known as
Modulus of Elasticity or Young's Modulus.

Therefore,

                ( because
Stress is force upon area i.e., F / A, and
Strain is change in length upon original length i.e., dl / l )
