  • The headwaters of The Godavari River are situated in Trimbak City in Nashik District, Maharashtra.
  • The Godavari River is the second largest after The Ganga River with length of 1465 kilometers.
  • The Godavari River heads towards south-east passes from states Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Andhara Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and a Union Territory Puducherry and falls into Bay-of-Bengal.
  • Tributaries of The Godavari River are ; Indravati River, Manjira River,  Pranhita River, Sabari River, etc.
  • The Godavari River is also known as Dakshin Ganga or Ganga of Dakshin.

  • The source or starting point of the River is also called as it Headwaters.
  • Trimbakeshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is situated in Trimbak.

a)            Gangapur Dam is situated near village Gangawadi near City Nashik and started operations in 1965.
b)           Jayakwadi Dam is situated near city Paithan near Aurangabad District and started operations in 1976.
c)            Vishnupuri Barrage is situated near Nanded and started operations in 1976.
d)            Sriram Sagar Dam is situated near city Armoor, in Nizamabad District of Telangana and started operations in 1977.
e)            Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage / Godavari Barrage is situated near City Kothapeta, Andhra Pradesh and started operation in 1970.


Bridged built on The Godavari River

a)            Havelock Bridge is a railway bridge that is decommissioned after it completed its given life of 100 years in 1997 and is located in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Also known as Old Godavari Bridge.
b)            Godavari Bridge is a rail-cum-road bridge and is also known as Kovvur-Rajahmundry Bridge.
c)            Godavari Arch Bridge is Railway Bridge in Rajahmundry.
d)            Fourth Bridge, also known as New Road Bridge of Godavari.
